Connecting people through rhythm and sound.
About Sarah Westwood & Primal Sound

✦ Sharing the joy of music, sound & wellbeing
Sarah Westwood is the founder of Primal Sound, bringing together interactive rhythm experiences and restorative wellbeing through the power of music and sound.
For around 30 years, Sarah has worked with people of all ages and backgrounds – from corporate teams and conference delegates to universities, schools and community groups. Her work ranges from the uplifting energy of African drumming, Boomwhackers and body percussion to immersive soundbaths, deep relaxation and practical mind-body skills for wellbeing.
The heart of Primal Sound is using music and sound to change how we feel. Rhythm energises and connects us; resonant sound and stillness help us slow down, breathe and recharge. Both offer powerful ways to help people feel good.
Sarah’s approach has evolved through many years of exploring wellbeing and working with diverse groups, drawing on mindfulness, breathwork, guided relaxation, sensory grounding and restorative movement to create experiences that feel practical, accessible, down-to-earth… and fun!
Experience & Approach
Sarah is a percussionist and lead facilitator who has been creating participatory music and wellbeing experiences since the 1990s. Over three decades, her work has taken her into workplaces, conferences, universities, schools, retreats and community settings – from intimate groups to presenting at TEDx and events involving hundreds of participants.
She is known for a warm, inclusive and confidence-building approach, making it easy for people to take part whether they are picking up a drum for the first time, making music alongside hundreds of colleagues or settling down for a restorative sound experience.
Sarah also works with a trusted network of experienced musicians and wellbeing practitioners, enabling Primal Sound to deliver larger-scale events and programmes combining energising rhythm experiences with restorative practices such as sound, Qigong, yoga and Pilates.
What connects it all is the experience of doing something together – playing, listening, relaxing and having fun.
The aim is always to create something engaging and inspiring that helps people feel energised, relaxed, connected and uplifted.
