Playing music with others is a joyful experience, and drumming is both accessible and exhilarating.
Sarah has performed and taught West African drumming for over 20 years across the country and teaches regular beginners and intermediate classes as well as guiding groups in building their drumming skills.
Drum Journey/ Meditation Circles
Drumming is truly wonderful for our minds and our wellbeing. Playing drums is uplifting and deeply relaxing. It can bring us fully into the present moment, making it a thoroughly enjoyable mindfulness activity, and it can take us into altered states of consciousness for the purpose of ‘journeying’.
From time immemorial, cultures around the world have harnessed the power of drumming to affect our emotional, mental and physical state. Drumming stimulates many areas of the brain at once, giving us tremendous feelings of connection and joy.
What does it involve?
Drum Journey is a drum jam with a difference. With simple heartbeat rhythms as our basis, we explore playing and improvising together, creating music in the moment from a place of deep listening, feeling & inspiration. You will find how to contribute to & let go into the group sound, until you feel a strong connection between what your hands are playing, the sounds you are hearing, and the response of your heart and spirit.
Sarah uses her beautiful gongs under the sound of the drums to help take us into a creative state. And as we learn to play together, the music truly comes alive!
Open to all levels (feel free to bring shamanic drum/ shakers too)
